Interconnectivity

Posted by incoherencedaily on October 14, 2007

I am, to sum it up in one word, amazed. I’m amazed, freaked out, and a little wary at the same time. I just realized how connected everything is now. Well, not really. I Knew that I could conceivably talk to someone in Sydney, Australia with barely five minutes search. Perhaps not a specific person, but at least someone in that place.

This realization, this epiphany, if you will, struck me today whilst I was immensely bored.  I was sitting in front of my laptop, wondering what I could do. It occurred to me that I could look at random people’s blogs and tell them anything, even though I had absolutely no connection to them. Mind you I haven’t written anything mean and I don’t plan to. It just seems like such an odd thing to do. Almost like butting into a stranger’s conversation, but not rude.

College will drive me crazy, I know it.

Also, everyone seems to have this burning drive to hook up or tell me they’ve hooked up all of a sudden. All at the same time. This seems to be an unseemly coincidence that I wish had not happened. It feels like a giant practical joke that ends up as a plot to a second rate novel, selling for half price in some giant megastore’s bookbin.

To end on a cheerier note, I get to go with the college choir to present at the open house. I’d rather do a concert with my band any day, but I guess I’ll take what I can get.

Cheers!

“Virtually everything you do today will be wrong”

Posted by incoherencedaily on October 7, 2007

Said the horoscope in the book I’m reading. The book happens to be one of Douglas Adams, and also one of my all time favourites. It would be difficult to classify this, but I hesitantly label it as ‘humour,’ since it is about a detective who solves mysteries through the fundamental interconnectedness of all things. The book is entitled “The Long Dark Tea-Time of The Soul” and it is the sequel of “Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency.” I particularly enjoy Adams’ style of writing, as it is unexpectedly original in the most descriptive way. Allow me to quote:

“The daylight shouldered its way in like a squad of policemen, and did a lot of what’s-all-thising around the room which, like the bedroom, would have presented anyone of an aesthetic disposition with difficulties. Like most of the rooms in Dirk’s house it was large, looming and utterly disheveled.”

If you know me personally, you may see why I find this book so entertaining. If you have the time or patience, I suggest you go down to the local library or bookstore and find these books. If you wish, of course. Douglas Adams isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, so to speak.

Yesterday was my family’s “turkey day.” Yes, the age old celebration of stuffing your face till you feel like exploding and perhaps murmuring a bit of thanks before then. This is not to say that I didn’t enjoy it; quite the contrary. It was an exquisite day, which could only have been made better had I not been, alas, a vegetarian. One cannot experience the true grandiosity of “turkey day” without having at least a small morsel of cooked foul of flightless descent. Needless to say I did not indulge myself in the guilty pleasure of chowing down on the poor bird we had cooked, I merely enjoyed all the peripheral delicacies associated with thanksgiving. It was a pleasant evening.

The morning of that day, however, could not have been more bland. Some might call it a ‘vedge’ morning, but I’d rather refer to it as unproductive yet relaxing. I watched a film and read a bit. I was also on msn a bit. Nothing to brag about, really. Although I did find a reviewer that shared my non-commital attitude towards halo 3.

Five second review: Halo 3 is a run of the mill shooter. End of story.

Cheers and happy thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving?

Posted by incoherencedaily on October 5, 2007

Today is my day off. Well, it’s the start of days off, anyways. So I got to finally get to get up late-ish this morning. As soon as I got up, I thought: “hmm. I feel like banana pancakes.” So I made some. They were excellent, in case you wanted to know. After breakfast I tried to make my own t-shirt design with this crazy paper that you can just print out and stick to clothes. I failed miserably and got some weird papery stuff stuck to my shirt. Ah well, at least it wasn’t a good shirt. After this I got to take a great walk and listen to a whole Jethro Tull CD. The trees are very pretty, but it’s incredibly warm out for this time of year. Could this be attributed to global warming? Perhaps.

Let me tell you about my intensely good wednesday. I got up in a terrible mood and this was a tenuous start to my day. I decided to bring my laptop and a movie to watch on the train. It was a movie about an Irish Soul band called the Commitments. It really cheered me up. By the time I got to school, I was ecstatically good. I was also happy because I wasn’t going to humanities, since we weren’t going to do anything in that horrible class. So basically I got to spend time with my friends until four, which was music history class. Before that class, though I went to a school concert where I got a hundred dollars for getting the top mark in the entrance auditions for guitar! It was unexpected, actually. But it was a welcome surprise nonetheless. After the concert I hung around with Lori, Alyssa and company till History. In history we watched a very odd ‘ballet’ that made me laugh. Then I went home and was in a good mood till the next day!

Now it’s the weekend, and I won’t see any of my friends till Tuesday, probably. :( Oh well. C’est la vie, comme on dit.

Cheers!

Happy thanksgiving!
